Community Involvement

Third Thursday

Every Third Thursday of each month, downtown Hutchinson, Kansas dedicates itself to featuring art and live music in stores and galleries. Centered around the SoMa neighborhood, near B and Main Street, the event is free and open to all, and invites the community to indulge in the fine and performing art community of Hutchinson. Guest artists come in from all over the country; art exhibits rotate monthly; the Galleries and stores serve refreshments; and as always - the fabulous musicians entertain and amaze us with their talents.

(2009) Main Street Award for Third Thursday

Because of the interest and success of the 1st Art tour in 2008, Jennifer Randall, and Dan Brizendine organized a monthly happening on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Over 100 artists and 19 musical acts performed in forty-two venues throughout downtown Hutchinson creating a lively fun atmosphere! Third Thursday has it's roots in providing venues for Artists to show their work and Musicians to play for the community. The event grew from viral marketing on social media, including the creation of a Third Thursday page on Facebook. Traditional advertising in newspaper, radio, signage and posters also helped Third Thursday bring the audience. The making of a Third Thursday Website is underway. The sense of life and community that Third Thursday has brought to Downtown has brought in new businesses and inspired more downtown living spaces. Downtown Hutchinson is being seen as a social gathering place, shops and eateries are full and stay open late.
